Meet the Leadership Team


Edward Poorman – Principal, President/COO

Ed Poorman took over ownership of Associated Building Inspections, Inc. in August of 2017.  Mr Poorman holds an Associates Degree in Architectural Engineering from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Architecture from Temple University.  Ed holds many inspection certifications in building, plumbing, mechanical, energy and electrical for both residential and commercial applications.   He also served in the United States Marine Corp for 9 years with honors as a Sergeant of Marines and performing duties as Forward Operating Base Air Chief for Camp Mudaysis in Iraq.


Randy Maurer – Vice President

Randy, ABI’s founder, started ABI in 1994 out of his home office. Randy holds an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State. Randy holds 37 certifications from the International Code Council, including Certified Fire Marshal and has over 38 years’ experience in the code enforcement industry. Randy is an active Amateur Radio Operator call sign WA3HLP, is active in the Military Auxiliary Radio System, and is the founder of Middle Creek Search & Rescue.


Ken Dranchek – Lead Plans Examiner/ Construction Code Official

Ken is our resident architect and lead plans examiner.  He has over 30 years’ experience as a Licensed Architect and Building Code Official. Ken conducts plans reviews and inspections for commercial projects and specializes in Means of Egress and Accessibility. He enjoys swimming and working out at the gym and spending time with his son and daughter-in-law.


Donald (Don) Forry – Commercial Building Inspector/Plans Examiner – Master Code Official

Don has over 33 years in code administration, plan review and inspection experience. He began his career at Centre Region Code in State College and then moved to Manheim Township as the commercial / fire code official, and the director of code compliance. He instructed for PCCA and PHRC, served on the PABCO Board of Directors and UCC Review and Advisory Council as vice chair.


Greg Ott – Senior Plans Examiner: Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy/ Commercial Inspector

Greg is professor emeritus from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, where he taught plumbing and heating, construction codes, OSHA, and math. He received his BA from Lebanon Valley College and his Master’s Equivalency through Temple University. He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.


Glen Rinehimer – Electrical Inspector

Glen has more than 30 years as an electrical inspector. Glen was an Electrical Instructor at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. Glen has degrees in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Education from Temple University (Fight, fight, fight for the cherry and the white!) Glen also proudly served our county in the United States Air Force as a Senior Master Chief in Electrical Engineering.


Raymond (Ray) Buckwalter – Electrical Plans Examiner/ Electrical Inspector

Ray worked at New Holland Agriculture plant in New Holland for 17 years with automation installations and maintenance.  For the next 23 years Ray instructed students in Electrical Technology at Thaddeus Stevens College.  After retiring from teaching Electrical technology at Thaddeus Stevens College, Ray continues to help others learn the electrical trade.


Robert (Bob) Rittle – Commercial/Residential Building Inspector and Plans Examiner

Short Bio. Just a few highlights of your career and short description of your role as an ABI team member.


James (Jim) Phillips – Residential Inspector

With more than 40 years in the building industry, Jim has specialized in residential building, site built, component and modular housing. Prior to becoming a Building Inspector in 1998, Jim was a remodeling contractor for 7 years.


Ronald (Ron) Maurer – Building Code Official/Residential Inspector and Plans Examiner

Ron, who was in construction most of his life, decided to hang that up to become an inspector for ABI in 1998.  He is one of our Residential Inspectors and Plan Examiners.  When he is not at work he may just be hunting, walking in the woods or bowling.


Tom Pierce – Residential Building Inspector

Tom has 20 years’ experience as a building inspector.


Eric Hawkings – Commercial Inspector


Matthew (Matt) White – Residential Building Inspector and Plans Examiner

Matt has over 20 years in the construction industry. Matt owned his own residential construction company for 10 years. Matt went to Thaddeus Stevens and Temple University for Architecture.


Larry Griffith – Commercial Electrical Inspector/ Plans Examiner

Larry has over 30 years’ experience as an Electrical Inspector.

John Neely – Property Maintenance/Rental Property Inspector

John conducts regular inspections of properties in disrepair or with blight conditions. John is also a full time Pennsylvania State Constable and works within the judicial system.


Paul Castline – Property Maintenance/Rental Property Inspector

Paul is our boots on the ground guy with a certificate in property maintenance and housing enforcement. Paul conducts regular inspections of properties in disrepair or with blight conditions. Paul is also a full time Pennsylvania State Constable and works within the judicial system. When not at home with his beautiful wife and 4 daughters, Paul can be found at the Maytown Fire Department or Lancaster Township Fire Department where he is a volunteer fire fighter as well.

Carlton B. (Skip) Walls III – Permit Courier

Skip retired from Lancaster County-Wide Communications after 39 years with the 9-1-1 center for Lancaster County. He was awarded a life membership in APCO and received numerous other awards from APCO and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).  Skip is a Life Time Member of the Lititz Fire Company and the Lititz American Legion Garden Spot Post 56. Skip proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Wall Crisis. The Mayor of Lititz presented Skip with the “Key to Lititz” for his 40 years of community service.


Teri Rittle – Office Administrator/Permit Clerk

Teri has been with ABI since 2010.  She has a couple of roles at ABI.  As the Administrative Assistant she is the one to answer phones and assist you in the right direction, as well as be the first person you usually see when coming into our office.  Teri enjoys meeting our clients and visitors.

As our Permit Clerk she receives all projects as they come in, processes them and gives them to our plan reviewers.  When the plans are approved she packages them up for our Courier to deliver.

Free time activities include spending time with her family and church activities.


Torri Esch – Accounts Manager

Torri joined the ABI team in 2017.  She moved here from Wyoming in 2010.  She has an Associates in Paralegal Studies, over 20 years of bookkeeping and administrative experience.  Torri enjoys the outdoors and creating crafts.
