Edward Poorman – President/CEO and Commercial Field Inspector
Ed is the President and CEO of Associated Building Inspections, a role he assumed in August 2017. With an Associate’s Degree in Architectural Engineering from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Temple University, Ed brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the building inspection industry.
Certified in various fields including building, plumbing, mechanical, energy, and electrical inspections for both residential and commercial properties, Ed’s diverse skill set ensures top-tier service for clients.
A proud veteran, Ed honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, where he was a decorated Sergeant and earned recognition for his role as Forward Operating Base Air Chief in Iraq. His dedication to service extends beyond the military, as he is also the President of Your Six, a non-profit veteran’s charity.
Ed is actively involved in several key industry organizations, including the Lancaster County Code Association (LanCode), National Fire Protection Association, and the International Code Council (ICC). He has served as President of LanCode and is currently serving as Vice President. His commitment to the community and professional standards drives his leadership at Associated Building Inspections, where he continues to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in every inspection.
Randy Maurer – Master Code Professional and Plans Examiner
Randy, ABI’s founder, started ABI in 1994 out of his home office. Randy holds an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State. Randy holds 37 certifications from the International Code Council, including Certified Fire Marshal and has over 38 years experience in the code enforcement industry. Randy is an active Amateur Radio Operator call sign WA3HLP, is active in the Military Auxiliary Radio System, and is the founder of Middle Creek Search & Rescue.
Torri Esch – Office Manager and Building Code Official
Torri serves as the Office Manager and Building Code Official at Associated Building Inspections (ABI), where she plays a vital role in overseeing the company’s internal operations and ensuring smooth day-to-day management. With over 20 years of experience in bookkeeping and administrative roles, Torri brings a wealth of knowledge to her position, supporting ABI’s commitment to quality service and organizational efficiency.
Torri holds an Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies and is a certified Building Code Official. She also holds great knowledge in Property Maintenance, Zoning, and Basic Code Enforcement. Additionally, she is a Pennsylvania Notary Public and maintains active membership in the Pennsylvania Association of Notaries and the Lancaster County Code Association.
Her dedication to professionalism and attention to detail ensures that ABI runs efficiently and meets the highest standards of regulatory compliance and customer service.
Ken Dranchek – Lead Plans Examiner and Construction Code Official
Ken Dranchek is the Lead Plans Examiner and Construction Code Official at Associated Building Inspections (ABI), bringing over 30 years of experience as a Licensed Architect and Building Code Official. As the resident expert in architectural design and construction codes, Ken leads the review of plans and inspections for commercial projects, with a particular focus on Means of Egress and Accessibility. His extensive knowledge ensures that all projects adhere to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Ken holds an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences & Architecture from Harrisburg Area Community College and is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) in a variety of areas, including Building Code Official and Commercial Building Plans Examiner & Inspector. He also holds multiple certifications from the International Code Council (ICC), including Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner and Commercial Energy Plans Examiner & Inspector.
Outside of work, Ken enjoys swimming, working out at the gym, and spending quality time with his son and daughter-in-law. His passion for architecture and dedication to his craft make him an invaluable member of the ABI team.
Salvatore Sparacio – Commercial Inspector and Plans Examiner
Salvatore “Sal” serves as a Commercial Inspector and Lead Plans Examiner at Associated Building Inspections (ABI). With a Master’s Degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Palermo in Italy, Sal brings a global perspective and over a decade of architectural experience to the team. Before relocating to the United States in 2016, Sal worked as an architect in Italy, where he honed his skills in architectural design and structural engineering.
Sal’s expertise in commercial plans examination is complemented by his certifications from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) and the International Code Council (ICC). He is certified as a Building Code Official, Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, Commercial Building Inspector/Plans Examiner, Commercial Energy Plans Examiner, and Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector, ensuring that all commercial projects meet the highest standards of safety, functionality, and compliance.
In addition to his technical qualifications, Sal is an active member of industry organizations, including the International Code Council, Lancaster County Code Association, and the American Fire Sprinkler Association.
Greg Ott – Senior Plans Examiner: Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy and Commercial Inspector
Greg is a Senior Plans Examiner and Commercial Inspector at Associated Building Inspections (ABI), specializing in mechanical, plumbing, and energy systems. With an extensive background in teaching and industry expertise, Greg is a former professor emeritus at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, where he taught courses in plumbing and heating, construction codes, OSHA, and mathematics. He holds a BA from Lebanon Valley College and earned his Master’s Equivalency through Temple University.
Greg’s career spans several decades, and he is highly respected for his work in plumbing and mechanical inspections. He is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) and holds multiple certifications from the International Code Council (ICC), including Residential and Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Plumbing Plans Examiner, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, and Mechanical Plans Examiner.
In addition to his certifications, Greg has completed advanced training seminars in HVACR/Plumbing, International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, and OSHA. He has been a Master Plumber since 1977, further cementing his authority in the field.
Beyond his professional achievements, Greg is an active member of the International Association of Plumbing & Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) Education Committee, where he contributed by writing Chapter #1 of the IAPMO 2000 Uniform Plumbing Code Illustrated Training Manual.

Glen brings over 36 years of valuable experience in electrical inspections to Associated Building Inspections (ABI). With a Master’s degree in Industrial Education from Temple University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Education from the University of Maryland, Glen has a solid academic foundation to support his expertise in the electrical field.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Glen served in the Electrical Engineering division, further honing his skills and deepening his knowledge of electrical systems. This military background has provided him with a unique perspective and attention to detail that he applies to every inspection.
In addition to his educational qualifications and military service, Glen holds multiple certifications from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I), including Electrical Code Official, Electrical Inspector, Electrical Plans Examiner, and Residential Electrical Inspector. His work has been further enriched by his teaching roles at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and Reading Muhlenberg AVTS, where he instructed students in Electrical Technology.

Raymond (Ray) Buckwalter – Electrical Plans Examiner and Electrical Inspector
Ray is an experienced Electrical Plans Examiner and Electrical Inspector at Associated Building Inspections (ABI). With a rich background in both hands-on industry work and education, Ray brings over 40 years of expertise to the field.
After his time in the field, Ray transitioned into education, spending the next 23 years as an instructor in Electrical Technology at Thaddeus Stevens College. He also served as an OSHA General Industry Instructor, shaping the next generation of electrical professionals. Even after retiring from teaching, Ray continues to share his passion for the electrical trade, helping others learn and grow in the field.
Ray holds certifications from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) and the Uniform Construction Code (UCC), including Residential Electrical Inspector, Electrical Inspector, and Electrical Plans Examiner. He also has additional training as a UCC Code Official.
An active member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and the Electrical Association of Lancaster County, Ray is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in electrical inspection and safety.
With his extensive experience, both in the classroom and on the job, Ray plays a vital role in ensuring that electrical projects are safe, compliant, and up to code.
Alicia Vazquez – Permits Manager and Administrative Assistant
Alicia is the Permits Manager and Administrative Assistant at Associated Building Inspections (ABI), where she plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the office. Alicia is responsible for processing all permits, both in and out of the office, ensuring that every project complies with the necessary regulations and is completed efficiently.
She has received training through the Building Code Official Seminar at the PA Construction Codes Academy, which has equipped her with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage the permitting process.
Outside of her professional role, Alicia is a proud mother to three beautiful children. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, as well as painting and drawing, allowing her to express her creative side.

Sharon is the friendly face you’ll encounter when you enter our office, always greeting you with a warm smile and ensuring you receive the best customer service possible. As an Administrative Assistant at Associated Building Inspections (ABI), Sharon provides vital support to our internal operations team, helping things run smoothly behind the scenes.
In addition to her office duties, Sharon occasionally serves as one of our municipal couriers, assisting with important deliveries and communications. Her dedication to service and her positive, welcoming demeanor make her an invaluable part of the ABI team.

Brian Ziegler – Master Code Professional, Commercial & Residential Building Inspector and Plans Examiner
Brian brings over 10 years of experience in the construction industry, including owning his own construction company, to his role at Associated Building Inspections (ABI) as an inspector and plans examiner. With 19 years of service to his local fire company, including many years in an officer capacity, Brian is deeply committed to both his community and his professional expertise, as demonstrated by earning his Master Code Professional certification.
In addition to his work at ABI, Brian is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Code Council, PA Zoning Officials Association, Lancaster County Code Association, and Myerstown Water Authority Board. He is also involved with the Lebanon County Republican Committee. He has been serving as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for Keystone Hook and Ladder Co. #1 since 2017, currently as Captain. His fire service began in 2006 at the Goodwill Fire Company, where he has held multiple leadership positions, including Assistant Chief and President demonstrating his dedication to public service.
Brian holds several certifications, including his L&I Certification, Master Code Professional (MCP) certification, and multiple International Code Council certifications.

Steve Zook – BCO, MCP –Master Code Professional, Commercial Inspector and Plans Examiner
Steve is a Master Code Professional (MCP) and Commercial Inspector and Plans Examiner with over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. With a diverse background in fieldwork, project management, and supervision, Steve brings a wealth of knowledge and hands-on expertise to his role at Associated Building Inspections (ABI).
Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Messiah College, alongside Continuing Education Seminars in International Code Council (ICC) and Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Code Council, PA Zoning Officials Association, and Lancaster County Code Association.
In addition to his professional qualifications, Steve has a unique personal history. From 2002 to 2004, he served as a missionary in the Middle East with Reach Global (EFCAM), where he gained valuable cross-cultural experience that continues to influence his work today.
Steve is also certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) and holds various ICC certifications, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards in the industry.
Outside of his professional life, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and children, as well as hiking in the woods or paddling on a river, offering him a balanced and active lifestyle. His combination of experience, education, and community involvement makes him a key asset to the ABI team.
Kyle is an experienced Commercial Inspector at Associated Building Inspections (ABI), bringing a wealth of knowledge from his many years in the construction industry. Prior to joining ABI, Kyle owned and operated his own electrical business for 10 years, where he gained hands-on experience and a strong understanding of building systems and code compliance.
Kyle is deeply committed to his community, serving as a volunteer firefighter and past Lieutenant with the Witmer Fire Protection Association since 2018, where he is also a Trustee and part of the Supper Committee. His dedication to service extends beyond his professional life, demonstrating his strong work ethic and community involvement.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Code Council, PA Zoning Officials Association, and Lancaster County Code Association. Kyle has completed an Electrical Apprenticeship Program and has attended Continuing Education Seminars with Associated Builders and Contractors, the International Code Council, and the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code.
Kyle holds L&I Certification and multiple International Code Council certifications, which enhance his ability to perform thorough inspections and ensure compliance with the highest standards.
Ronald (Ron) Maurer – Building Code Official, Residential Inspector and Plans Examiner
With over 50 years of experience in the construction industry, Ron is a seasoned professional who transitioned from a long career in construction to become a Building Code Official and Residential Inspector at Associated Building Inspections (ABI) in 1998. As one of our Residential Inspectors and Plans Examiners, Ron brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise, ensuring every project complies with the highest safety and building standards.
Ron holds several certifications, including L&I Certification and International Code Council Certifications, making him fully qualified as a Residential Building Inspector, Certified Building Code Official, Electrical Inspector Residential, Mechanical Inspector Residential, Plumbing Inspector Residential, and Energy Inspector Residential. His extensive training equips him with a comprehensive understanding of residential construction codes and compliance requirements.

Don Forry – Master Code Professional and Commercial Inspector
Don is a highly experienced Master Code Professional and Commercial Inspector at Associated Building Inspections (ABI), with a career in code enforcement spanning over three decades. He began his career as a Code Official with the Centre Region Code Administration in 1984 and has since built an extensive background in plan reviews and inspections. Don continues to serve ABI by providing expert inspections and plan reviews for commercial projects.
Don’s passion for code enforcement extends beyond his work at ABI. He has been a dedicated instructor in various code and construction programs, including the Building & Fire Code Academy since 1987, as well as serving as a past instructor for the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center for 10 years and the Pennsylvania Construction Codes Academy for 5 years.
Don holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Pennsylvania State University, as well as a B.S. in Business Administration from the College of Charleston. His education is complemented by training in Architectural Engineering and Non-Degree Courses from Penn State.
In addition to his career and teaching roles, Don is highly involved in industry organizations. He is a past president of the Pennsylvania Association of Building Code Officials (PABCO) and the Lancaster County Code Association (LCCA), which he helped found. Don also served as the past vice-chair of the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council and is a member of several industry groups, including the International Code Council, the National Fire Protection Association, and the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.
Don’s certifications include L&I Certification and International Code Council certifications, including Building Code Official under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (PA UCC), showcasing his commitment to maintaining the highest standards in code enforcement.

Matthew (Matt) White – Building Code Official, Commercial & Residential Building Inspector and Plans Examiner
Matt has over 20 years in the construction industry. Matt owned his own residential construction company for 10 years. Matt studied architecture at Thaddeus Stevens and Temple University.
Alejandro is a dedicated Plans Examiner at Associated Building Inspections (ABI), where he brings a unique perspective to the world of building code enforcement. Alejandro holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Business from York College of Pennsylvania, combining his academic background with a passion for positively impacting the community. This passion led him to pursue a career in building code enforcement, where he plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of construction projects.
